The best part of Poshmark is that the app provides a unique feature where you can showcase your items through “posh shows” just like Instagram Live events, allowing potential buyers to see what you’re selling up close.
This is a fantastic way to get involved with the community and sell your stuff in a fun, interactive way. Got an old purse or a men’s cardigan gathering dust? Wondering how to get started and how it all works?

How To Sell On Poshmark: Step-by-Step Instructions
Below I outline how to sell your first item, with pictures!
Step 1: Sign Up
This one is pretty easy if you haven’t done so already, head over to poshmark.com or download their app to get started.
Step 2: Select “Sell on Poshmark”
Once you sign up and login in, click on “Sell on Poshmark.” You’ll find it right at the top right corner, near where your profile picture is.
or “sell” on the mobile version.
Step 3: Create Your Listing
Go ahead and take some pictures of what you want to list. I recommend starting with a few items first before you go full out. Just so you get a hand of things.
Photos & Video
I recommend snapping clear, brightly lit photos that match the cover shot size guidelines. If you’ve got a moment, throwing in a video is a great plus! It lets shoppers quickly get a feel for what you’re selling.
Take a peek at this zip-up I’m putting up for sale, it’s important to center it just right according to their size standards. And try to skip the filters, they can disguise the real look of your items. Being upfront about what you’re selling not only helps move your items faster but also keeps you from dealing with pesky customer service issues.
If you are using your phone: Poshmark first brings up your camera, so go ahead and upload your pictures through your camera roll or take a few pics of what is in your closet.
Title & Descriptions
Make sure your title and description pop, making buyers eager to check out your listing. Be as precise as you can and see what’s working for other sellers.
Instead of just saying “Converse Shoes,” spice it up to “Barely Worn Blue Converse Shoes with Brand-New Laces.” The more details, the better!
Pricing
Getting the right price for stuff in your closet is crucial, but try not to ask too much or think your items are worth more than they are.
My advice? Price your used items at around 30-40% of what you originally paid. If something’s barely been used, knocking off just 20% from the original price might work.
Not sure what to charge? It’s always smart to peek at what prices others are setting for similar items.
PoshMark, does give you a suggested price but that’s not always accurate.
Here’s a little trick I swear by: pop over to eBay and check out the prices for items that have recently sold. It’s a great way to gauge what people are actually willing to pay.
On eBay, look for the option “Show Only Sold Items” on the left side. For instance, my Nike Shox Gravity Metallic Gold 2018 shoes are going for around $105 plus $15 for shipping. It’s a straightforward way to nail the perfect price for your Poshmark listings.
And if you’re thinking about selling your fancy handbags or any luxury items, you’ve got to do your homework. Nothing stings like realizing you could have made a lot more money if you’d just priced things a bit differently.
Step 4: List Your Items!
After you’ve wrapped up your listing, the tough part’s done..it’s time to post your item and wait for a buyer!
Just take a moment to double-check everything, making sure the details and pricing are spot on.
Once it’s listed, feel free to add it to your story and share it on social media for extra visibility. If you’re aiming for a quick sale, that’s the way to go!
Where are my items after listing?
The annoying part is, once you list your item you are kinda left in the dark. To check on your listings, go to your profile picture, click on the dropdown menu, and select “my closet” to access your seller store.
There, you’ll find everything you’ve put up for sale. You can even click on your listings to edit or delete them. Just remember, every time you post something, it goes through a review period.
How Do I Delete a Listing?
To delete a listing, simply go back to your closet. Pick the item you wish to remove.
Click on “edit listing” located on the right side.
After clicking “edit listing,” scroll down to the very bottom and choose “delete listing.” This action will ask you to confirm the deletion.

Items To Avoid Selling
When selling on Poshmark, steer clear of fakes or knockoffs, anything that sort of imitates big brands without permission, hazardous stuff like aerosols or perfumes, certain tech gadgets, used beauty products, health and medical items, airline uniforms, and definitely no food or live pets.
Keep the platform safe and fun for everyone, remember if you wouldn’t buy it why sell it?
How To Sell on Poshmark: Money-Making Tips
Check out these tips for making more profit on Poshmark!
Set Achievable goals
When you’re just starting out on Poshmark, it’s key to set realistic goals.
Begin with items you’re ready to part with and those you believe could bring in some extra cash. Hold off on treating it like a full-blown business, instead, test the waters to see if selling suits you.
A good starting point could be listing 1 item per week and adjusting your approach based on that experience.
Customer Service is Key
Amazon’s reputation wasn’t just about affordable prices, it’s really built on outstanding customer service and hassle-free returns.
Applying the same approach in your Poshmark store by being attentive and supportive to your customers can significantly enhance your reputation and success as a seller. This focus on customer satisfaction can spotlight your store, potentially skyrocketing your sales.
Preparing Your Inventory
Setting up an organized system for your inventory is super important. Imagine the chaos of finding sold items last minute a total headache, right?
Always have your shipping supplies ready to go. Trust me, nothing frustrates buyers more than waiting forever for their purchase. Stay on top of your game and ship quickly to keep your customers happy and your seller reputation shining!
Master the art of Photography
You don’t have to be a pro photographer but remember you’re selling online so people want to see what they’re buying through photos..and a lot of them.
Take your time to snap plenty of clear, well-lit pictures against simple backgrounds that won’t distract from your items. Paying attention to details like this can really set you on the path to becoming a top-notch seller.
Price to Sell
While Poshmark offers pricing suggestions, they might not always reflect the market’s reality. To truly succeed and earn money, understanding the market value of your items is key.
Looking into eBay or other third-party sites can give you a clearer picture of what buyers are willing to pay. Price your items correctly, and you’ll see them sell quickly..price them wrong, and they might just sit there.
Craft Compelling Listings
You don’t need to be a storytelling pro, but when you’re putting up listings, think details, details, details!
Aim to answer any questions a buyer might have right off the bat so they’re more likely to hit that buy button. A vague description? Big no-no.
Whether it’s brand new, gently used, or something else, make sure you spell it out. Clear info = faster sales.
Be Transparent
Being honest about the condition of your items is crucial for building a trustworthy online selling reputation and just being decent in general.
If your clothes have any flaws or if they were really only worn once, sharing that upfront can prevent a lot of issues with customers later on. Transparency goes a long way in minimizing complaints and making the selling experience smoother for everyone involved.
Leverage Posh Shows and Social Media
To really boost your sales and profits, consider hosting “Posh Shows” and promoting your items on social media. It’s a step outside the comfort zone for some, but it could reveal your knack for online selling!
Live shows not only establish your credibility but also build trust with potential buyers. So, why not give it a try?
Become Verified
Online trust is huge, so getting verified as a Posher can make a significant difference.
It might require a bit more effort and a few extra minutes of your time, but the payoff in regular sales can be well worth it. All you need is your government-issued ID or passport to get verified, so why not take that extra step and build trust with your buyers?
Craft Thoughtful Packages and Notes
Once your items are sold, don’t forget to add your own personal touch! Custom wrapping or unique packaging can really make your brand stand out.
Tossing in your business cards with links to your website can also help spread the word about your brand. Remember, customer service doesn’t stop at the sale, it’s about adding that extra touch to keep customers coming back for more.
Be Open To Returns and Cancelations
Ultimately, selling items means dealing with the possibility of returns some for valid reasons, others not so much. It’s just part of the game, and every seller faces it.
Be ready to accept returns and prioritize customer satisfaction, it’s all about keeping your buyers happy.
Alternatives to Selling on Poshmark
If Poshmark is not your forte, there are a ton of other options, I’ve also checked out ThredUp exclusively on my blog. The only bummer is they don’t take men’s clothing for sale.
Another classic choice is eBay, although I’d advise against it for older items, the fees can really add up.
One of my personal favorite ways to find new apps and discovery is just to look at the top 3 in the app store. Mercari and Depop are right there next to Poshmark. So why not try these out yourself?
Wrapping Up and My Experience With Poshmark
Poshmark offers an excellent opportunity to streamline your closet and earn additional income on the side. It’s also a fantastic gateway into entrepreneurship, providing insight into managing a small business. And you know all I’m in for that!
The fees are low, and Poshmark makes good use of social media to help you showcase your items to potential buyers.
However, the platform can be a bit tricky to navigate, and it’s frustrating that it doesn’t save your progress when you go back to a listing. The interface could definitely be simpler and less cluttered, both on the app and website.
One thing that could be improved is the sell button on mobile. Instead of immediately prompting you to take a photo, it could start by asking for details about the item you’re selling.
Overall, Poshmark is a great app to kickstart your selling journey, so don’t hesitate to give it a try!
